Rodgers and Hammerstein's "The King and I" is a moving, radiant story of East meets West. The musical is based on the memoirs and experiences of Anna Leonowens, a British schoolteacher hired in the 1860's by the King of Siam as part of his drive to modernize his country. The relationship between the King and Anna is marked by conflict through much of the show, as well as by a love to which neither can admit.

Some of the memorable songs in "The King and I" include, Shall We Dance, I Whistle a Happy Tune, Getting to Know You and Something Wonderful.

The musical premiered on March 29, 1951. It ran for nearly three years, making it the fourth longest-running Broadway musical in history at the time, and has had many tours and revivals.
Auditions will be held on Monday-Wednesday, June 17, 18 & 19 from 6-8 PM at the Pinecrest Grove library, 500 Evergreen Lane, Mt. Morris. Materials will be provided for reading and vocal parts.
